TEXT 9 Z 14
FIREWORKS OF TEARS
Slunecnik: So you had the courage
to send me a letter, yet asking him for his name
was too embarrassing for you. Was he handsome? Huh?
And why did your lips burn afterwards?
If in the night you heard a breaking back
And eyes, eyelids fluttering, squinting at the sky,
Know that every maiden would very gladly
Beg, on her knees, to have a boy for herself.
That is why they opened their windows and with their lips lured
Into the room my tears, which perhaps to them
They are to fulfill secret wishes. But they rotted
Into disaster. They didn't hear! They didn't want to know
Why and where these fireworks of tears came from,
Which Saint Lawrence himself once shed,
How is it that every bit of droplet freezes,
Who brought them this false happiness, love today.
Everyone who that night towards me, if even with one
Eye looked up and beheld the seemingly
Innocent glow – then smite with a sword
And cut short Medusa's life – carefully
Guard your spindle and happiness, fight
Like Perseus – for Paradise awaits you not.
I didn't say my crying would change yours
Life for the better – turn to Slunečník!
I never cried happiness on command,
Rather just from great unhappy love,
I won't weave happiness from misfortune – let such
Then be my milky hairs.
You are to blame, yet I love you,
That the ice floes, my tears, in this
In a universe of peace they dissolve
And they scream like a thunderous storm,
Because just like the two of us,
Will not meet with lightning, the portrait
Purple – that love's dirge
Fades – a wax doll
Maintains its beauty decidedly longer.
But against that there's simply nothing to be done
To do – just hope that it will be warm
Our hearts and the heat won't burn us
Desires that command us to seek each other, to see
Though for a fleeting moment, a second
Only – at the flash of dawn, to see
And then with the thought of jumping under the covers.
Mesicnik: Dear Mr. Dawson, doesn't this
question seem inappropriate to you? I think that
is completely inappropriate. Goodbye.
Slunecnik: Dear sir, that question came
straight from the heart and if it
offended you then I'm sorry. I believe in what's
on my heart is on my tongue.
