Mermaid Choi Soo Young
Acrylic on canvas 70x50cm
I painted this picture to rediscover my inner peace. In its deeper sense, the sale of this painting is meant to fulfill my need to produce the Ahwa angel coin, which is connected to the Endralon project. I believe that if this coin is meant to be created, the mermaid Choi Soo Young will find her buyer. And if not – I painted her for joy – the inspiration for her was a scene from the South Korean series Run on. I liked the very actress in it who gave her name to my mermaid, even though she doesn't look much like the actress. While painting the portrait, it dawned on me that the path for me is not to create a realistic image of the world – nor should I try to. Whenever I try – the painting grows heavy. That is why I am glad that inspiration once again triumphed over what others might call reality.
And as the 107th shen-shu oracle says Autumn Leaves
紅葉 無 顏色
凋零 一夜 風
鄰 雞 醒 午 夢
心事 總成 空
Red autumn leaves lose their color
Scattered during one windy night.
You are awakened by the neighbor's hen
From daydreams at noon.
By worrying, you achieve nothing.
Many worries and concerns are only given a chance at night. Whether you lie awake or with dreamt-of dreams. After a good sleep, the day looks good. After a sleepless night, that same day looks bleak. Try not to take your dreams with you into the new day. They are like autumn leaves, trees lose them to survive the winter.
The mermaid Choi Soo Young puts you in a mood for daydreaming, you have spots before your eyes not only because you are looking at her on a bright day, she tries to awaken long-forgotten dreams within you.
Analysis of the painting "The Mermaid Choi Soo Young"
This painting, inspired by a scene from a South Korean TV series and the actress Choi Soo Young, expresses the themes of dreaming and escape from reality. The author uses bright, pastel colors to express lightness and fragility, which are typical of mermaid paintings.
Technique and color palette: The painting is done with acrylic paints, allowing for vibrant and expressive color combinations. The use of aquamarine and pink reflects not only the water element, but also the delicacy and femininity associated with the figure of the mermaid.
Symbolism and interpretation: The mermaid in this painting symbolizes the desire to escape from reality and return to innocence and dreaming, which can often be suppressed in adult life. This theme resonates in many cultures and art movements as an expression of the longing to return to a simpler, more dreamlike state of being.
Comparison with other artists and contemporary art: The painting recalls the works of the Impressionists, who experimented with light and color to express momentary, ephemeral experiences. Parallels can also be found with modern artists such as Yayoi Kusama, who often uses motifs from the natural and underwater world in her works to express deeper psychological states.
Significance of the work: The painting "Mořská panna Choi Soo Young" is not only visually enchanting, but also serves as a medium for introspection and reflection on one's own life, desires, and dreams. It prompts the viewer to think about personal freedom and the possibilities of escaping everyday worries and stresses.
