A crumb is left on the table, sugar like dust from something sweet. And you wipe it away with your thumb, as naturally as if you were clearing away my old tension too. You have a calmness inside you that isn't lazy, just grown-up. And I look at that and tell myself that waiting sometimes ends with a little thing like this: a touch that doesn't ask if it's allowed.

A crumb is left on the table,
sugar like dust after something good.
And you wipe it away with your thumb,
well of course,
as if you were clearing away my old tension too.
You have a peace within you,
which isn't lazy,
just an adult.
And I look at it
and I tell myself,
that waiting sometimes ends
with such a small thing:
a touch that doesn't ask
if it's allowed.
