Tanchico: Life behind the scenes, reality on set
Third season The Wheel of Time arrives as early as March, and one of the biggest attractions is Tanchico. The city, where chaos, exoticism, and intrigue mingle, received incredible care on set, and I was fortunate enough to be there as an extra.
Tanchico: Intrigue and Filth
Tanchico, a city on the coast of the Aryth Ocean, is the center of trade and dirty machinations in the world of the series. The locations were filmed in places known from Black Sails and the filmmakers created precisely that atmosphere—chaotic, bustling, and full of both grit and elegance. The streets, the taverns, the docks, everything breathes with life.
How I Ended Up as a Sex Worker
As an extra, I was cast as a sex worker. The costume? An open, slightly smudged shirt, black nail polish, intentionally scuffed and dirty. To top it off, a glued-on mustache, long hair, and a veil typical of the local culture. The makeup artists paid incredible attention to detail—for instance, they touched up my eyeshadow at least a thousand times under the lead makeup artist's direction. Every element had its purpose and fit right into the atmosphere of Tanchico.
During the shoot, I sat, stood, or strolled around the scene. I offered my body to the passing crowd—one of many extras, each with their own specific role. Together, we formed a colorful mosaic of life in Tanchico.
Filming in the Tavern
One of my main scenes took place in a tavern. I stood and walked around the tavern, watching a brawl break out between the tables… The atmosphere was incredibly vivid—the commotion, the shouting, and the actors fully immersed in their roles. As an extra, I was just a small part of the scene, yet I still felt like I was truly present in that world. Every detail, from the props on the tables to the lighting, was meticulously thought out.
A Premiere Worth Waiting For
The third season promises big things. Tanchico will be one of the hubs of the action and visually feels like one of the most elaborate parts of the entire series. If you love fantasy, you cannot miss this. Get ready for a heavy dose of intrigue, magic, and dramatic moments. March is just around the corner!
